The Club started about 1950 with the members meeting in their homes. The original name of the Club was the Clovis Curry County Radio Club. Around late 1960s the club name was changed to Eastern New Mexico Amateur Radio Club. At that time Mr. William Covey was the president and a teacher for the Clovis School system. Mr. Covey taught technical classes for the school system and they had an amateur radio club in school (KB5EJP). At this time , monthly meetings were held at the school. Thanks to Mr. Covey (W1GTT) for this update to our club history At this time, they also became affiliated with the ARRL. The club currently has over thirty members. We meet the Third Saturday of every month at the McDaniel’s Building located at 1017 Mitchell St, Clovis, NM. Testing will be held at 8:30 am followed by the club meeting at 10:00 am. Hoping for a good turnout!!
ActivitiesThe Club is active in storm spotting and emergency communications for the local community. We also (Elmer) teach new comers about Ham Radio and all of its associated benefits. These include the ability to talk to people from all around the globe. It is possible to talk to the astronauts when they have time, as the shuttle flights now have hams on board. DigitalThere are many modes or types of communicating available in Ham Radio. C.W. or Morse code was the first to come. Later came A.M. and F.M. , then ssb. Now we have many forms of digital communications, such as Echolink, Packet, IRLP, RTTY, PSK31, APRS, and the list goes on. We even do amateur television. If you can imagine it, it can be done Via Ham Radio. We have satelites orbiting around the earth, and some even bounce signals off the moon and meteor showers.Come Join the fun of Ham Radio with someone in your area. |
